What is the Centre of Hope Withdrawal Management Centre?

The Centre of Hope Withdrawal Management Centre provides a safe and welcoming environment to assist men and women who are in crisis with substance use. Clients are supported through their stay by a specially trained team in a comfortable residential setting. Withdrawal Management is an entry point into the addiction treatment continuum.

Who can stay at the Centre?

Men and women aged 16 years and over, who are intoxicated, in withdrawal, or are otherwise in crisis due to alcohol and/or drug use can stay at the Centre. Clients must be conscious, ambulatory and medically stable upon admission.

How do people get referred to the Centre?

The Centre is open and accepts referrals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Referrals may be made personally, or by any service or individual. A phone call to the Centre will indicate bed availability. If no beds are available, phone support and alternate supports are offered.

What services are offered?

Support, safety and care are offered through the acute stages of intoxication, withdrawal and crisis.

The Centre is a non-medical facility. Qualified staff monitor clients and refer to medical care as appropriate.

Nutritious meals, laundry facilities, and a warm, comfortable environment are provided throughout. Clients participate in day-to-day activities and routines.

Various groups are provided to support clients in the decisions regarding addiction issues. Daily groups offer information and promote positive lifestyle changes. 12 step groups are offered as a component of the service. Weekly groups include: The "Road To Recovery" program facilitated by our dedicated volunteers for clients.

For clients interested in identifying further goals and supports in recovery, comprehensive assessments and treatment planning are offered. The Provincial standardized screening tools are implemented in this process.

Referrals can be made to a number of community agencies, including addictions services, housing, mental health and other supportive organizations. Recovery related appointments can be kept during the stay at the Centre.

Phone support and information is available at any time for past and potential clients, community service providers, stakeholders, and family and friends.

How much does it cost?

The Centre is fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Longterm Care, and is a service of The Salvation Army Centre of Hope. There is no direct cost to clients.
